Headlines can provide life story ideas
Sometimes the headlines provide food for story ideas. Often they are silly in themselves. What publishers believe that people, women specifically are thinking and concerning their minds with can be puzzling, or at best, hilarious. You could write your own story about headlines. You could take a magazine, or a newspaper, or look on the internet and come up with some fun headlines that are attention-grabbers. You could write a little story about them, about how they strike you. Your story might be about the newsier headlines concerning world events. Or your story might take a lighter vein and be focused on the unusual, or the extraordinary. My very short story below is more about the headlines that pertain to women and I found in women’s magazines that were all piled up on a coffee table in the waiting area at the hairdresser’s. As I was waiting, I overheard some interesting conversations, such as, “she’s a color, but while she’s processing you could do her manicure.” My eye turned to the magazines on the table and some of the headlines caught my eye. What about this one, here’s a real burning question of the day, “How to Apply Liquid Eyeliner.” I am sure that we are all lying awake nights worrying about whether we are getting this one right. Here’s another one, “The Perfect Bra for Your Body.” Does such a thing exist? Here’s my personal favorite, “Lose Weight at Any Age.” My 86-year-old friend will like that one. She says at her age, she is allowed to look just as she pleases and I say good for her. Or here’s another good one, “Sexy New Perfume Alert.” Better read this and stay tuned in. I remember when I was young, I used to page through my mom’s Good Housekeeping magazine. I always thought that they had the best stories. Some of them I didn’t really understand, but they always seemed to be page turner romances where things turned out happy in the end. When I look today, the same articles are there in Good Housekeeping, “Clutter Solution,” “Do-it-All Cleaning Guide.” I guess someone thinks that women are the ones who will be most concerned with these things. My taste in magazines sure has changed though. Now my favorite is Inc. But I still favor the stories about people’s lives.
