Starting a Business While Still in School
If you’re an enterprising student, you may notice that you have an excellent opportunity to build a business while you’re still in school. You may just be a student, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t in posession of the skills and resources you need to become a successful entrepreneur. With the right motivation and resources, you’ll find that becoming a business owner is not as difficult as you may think.

You don’t have to wait until you’ve received your degree to start a business. Many entrepreneurs get started while they are still in college. The most common college business are dot coms, and although the boom is over, many students are still finding success. Solve a problem, be innovative, and create a business that brings you enjoyment, and perhaps more importantly, money.

College is a great time to start a business. Entrepreneurship is full of risks, and college students are in a great place to take those risks. Right now, you probably don’t have a family to care for or a mortgage to pay every month. If for some reason your business makes you lose it all, it’s not a big deal-because you don’t have a whole lot to lose at this point.

Additionally, the college environment is ripe with resources for budding entrepreneurs. You can get free advice from your professors and ask classmates and friends for their guidance as well. You’ll have access to journals and databases that your school pays for subscriptions to. Often, labs, computer and otherwise, are stocked with the latest gear that would otherwise cost you thousands to replicate in your own office. College campuses are full of students who are willing to work for low pay as well, so if your idea has a need for employees, you will find many willing candidates in your own classmates.

You may find that running a business has a positive impact on your grades. You’ll have to learn how to juggle your time and establish time management skills. Additionally, your business may teach you lessons that translate to your college classroom.

If you think you might want to start a business in college, just do it. Don’t second guess yourself, make excuses, or put it off. This is a great time for you to take advantage of what’s available to you, and have fun doing it.
