College Campuses Are a Great Place to Get Involved
You may have come to college with the primary intention of continuing your education but what you may not have realized is that opportunities to learn can continue outside of your courses as well when you choose to get involved with on-campus activities. While it’s possible to get involved with community, sports and humanitarian groups at any time in your life, college is a place where its easier than it will ever be again to find those that share your ideals and interests and who have the time and energy to follow through with them.

It doesn’t matter if you choose to join a sports team, take up dance or help out a humanitarian organization, every group on campus has something to teach you when you join. You’ll learn valuable skills in teamwork and cooperation and maybe even pick up a few pointers on marketing and fund raising along the way. If nothing else, you will learn how to work with people from different backgrounds and belief systems outside of the classroom setting – experience that can be invaluable later on in life in the workplace or when you’re looking for a job.

Joining organizations is also a great way to figure out what you truly love to do. You may have entered college with a certain degree in mind, but an active role in group activities can show you that your true interests and talents might be pointed somewhere else. Clubs and organizations on campus will give you a chance to figure out what you should really be pursuing as a career in a situation where you have little to lose other than your time. That’s an opportunity that won’t present itself many times in your life.

If your interest is piqued. there are lots of different ways you can find out about organizations active on your individual college campus. Many schools have student unions where groups meet or post listings of activities that you can look through and find out about. If yours doesn’t, check out their website or see if they have campus wide expo days for organizations to promote what they do. If you don’t find the group you want to support, why not start your own? You may even be able to get funding from your school to start out and you’ll likely make new friends and have great experiences along the way.
