The Millennial Generation Gets Educated
A recent study released by the Pew Research Center shows that the Millennial generation may be on its way to becoming the most educated generation in the history of America. The millennial generation consists of anyone who is within the 18 to 29 age range. The study reported that currently 19 percent of Millennials are already college graduates, 26 percent are still in school, and 30 percent have plans to return to school and earn a college degree. The majority of Millennials could eventually be college graduates if they are able to complete their education as planned.

The study found that while 19 percent of Millennials have already earned a degree, 39 percent are still in high school, trade school, or college. When it comes to pursuing education they are ambitious and of the 39 percent who are still attending school about half expressed a desire to earn a degree at a graduate or professional school. Along with high educational ambitions, Millennials are also working hard to put themselves through school. The study reported that about 24 percent balance both school and work, with 10 percent of students working full time and 14 percent part time.

Even though a Millennial is not in school, it does not mean they have given up on it. According to Pew Research, 65 percent have plans to pursue their education in the future. Of those who plan on returning to school, 32 percent of want to attend graduate or professional school, 30 percent plan on enrolling in a four year college, and 28 percent want to return to school to earn a high school diploma, receive a degree from a community college or attend a trade or vocational school.

Just because the Millennial generation has the potential to be the most educated one, it does not mean that they will be the most successful. Currently, 10 percent of Millennials are likely to report that they have lost their job compared to 6 percent of adults 30 and older, according to the Pew Research Center. Despite hard economic times the study found that Millennials are staying optimistic and even though 68 percent say that they are not earning enough money to live how they want to, 88 percent of them within that group expect to earn enough to reach their ideal standard of living in the future.
