Negative Impacts of Science

Negative Impacts of Science
Positive impacts may be unsurpassed, but the negative impacts of science are insurmountable. What are they actually? How will our society cope up with it? All answers end here.I remember, in my 6th grade, I was asked to write an essay on the 'Negative Impacts of Science and Technology'. It amused me to the core, as at that time, things were different from what they are now. Even though science transformed manifolds, it was yet to touch people's lives. Hence, there were a lot of basic points that I easily wrote in my essay, being the innocent kid that I was. However, today, when I'm again asked to put life to words on the negative impacts of science, I'm wordless, even though I have a lot to write - I'm in an awe as to how would I sum up into a given word limit the influence science and technology have had on our lives. Science is ubiquitous. There are many who have defied the existence of God, and believe that the existence of life on earth is a product of natural sciences. People have their own perceptions. However, none of us is left untouched by the hard knocks this field involves. Now is the time to ponder over the already-much-explored negative impacts of science on our society and life.

Negative Impacts of Science and Technology

Much has been said and talked about the importance of science and technology. However, as the saying goes, every rose has its thorns, here we have a comprehensive review of the adversities this revolution has brought about. Take a look at exactly what are the negative impacts of science on mankind:

Environmental Impacts
They're obvious. They're ubiquitous. They can be witnessed by one and all. They are a matter of mourning over. Environmental issues are the biggest concern that planet Earth is facing. Depleting ozone layer, increased global warming, reduced vegetation, climate change, animal extinction… and the list goes on and on! It is the development of industries and establishment of plants that has harmed everyone on the planet. Industrial areas, urbanization, etc. are some areas of scientific advancements, but the price is too high to be waved off.

Health Impacts
Medical science is no less than a blessing to mankind. Medicines produced all over the world are perceived to be a foolproof cure to a person's illness. However, there are some negatives associated with medical science too. Today, excessive consumption of drugs or drug addiction can lead to death. Moreover, incorrect consumption of any dosage may lead to fatal maladies, cure of which is next to impossible. Where medical science has advanced to an unbelievable extent, it entangles with itself perils of all kinds, and just a slight ignorance may prove to be a matter of life and death.

Technological Impacts
Well, this is, perhaps, one of the most common negative impacts of science. Technology has provided ease of all kinds to the human race. However, it has made us too busy to even see our loved ones in person. Technology might have made our daily life easier, but it has rendered health issues as well. Tremendous reliance and dependence on electronic gadgets, appliances, and most importantly, computer technology has made human life so lethargic that people are witnessing old age much before they are actually supposed to. With zero physical activity, science might have proven its mettle as an amazingly efficient service to its users, but has got the world adversely hooked to it!

There are no qualms in accepting the fact that science is the biggest revolution ever to planet Earth. However, a normal human being has no idea to what extent has this field advanced today. The negative impacts of science and technology are nothing but an indication to the verity that even if one wants, it is impossible to slump down to the ground from the heights this field has touched.
