Realisation ? Creative Writing I looked around me, nothing but laughter, nothing but happiness. My eyes scanned over the table, at the people that meant the most to me. My birthday had been the best yet, ?nothing better than being around your friends on your special days? I seem to recall my mother saying. I had received many presents, been hugged by many people, enjoyed the attention, yet there was something; something missing,. As I closed my eyes I tried to grasp what this feeling was. That day was not the only day I had been feeling this, but since everyday I could remember; however, this particular day it was more prevalent than ever before. I was interrupted by my best friend, "Thank you so much for bringing us to this restaurant, I love the food." ?It?s okay? I replied. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a distinct character approaching me. I was shocked, as this particular person was ?unable to attend?. I smiled, and looked at Alexis, he sat down next to me and said, "This day is too important to miss, happy birthday" and hugged me. I was speechless, I tried to say thank you but I was so overwhelmed with emotion that nothing came out, several seconds later I was still hugging him, almost unable to let go. He radiated so much warmth, and momentarily, I disregarded the feeling that had been on my mind all evening.
As I let go of him, he smiled and without knowing I was smiling back at him. I turned to my friends, they had all stopped talking and just stared at us, I felt embarrassed yet completely secure with showing my emotions. The attention then turned to Tina, who dropped a knife, knocking other items on the table with it, we laughed at this but I still could not detract this feeling of warmth he had given me. A sense of quiet confidence can over me, not only in myself but in my friends too. I knew that I had the best friends that one could wish for, but that day just felt extra special and continued thereafter. I looked at Alexis who was now sitting opposite me. He smiled at me, I felt reassured and my mind cast back to the time when he told me he liked me. He had knelt on one knee and offered me a rose, "You know I will always be there for you, no matter what we go through, I adore you and I feel closer to you than just a friend". Having someone like that for you, made me feel special and that life was worth living. ?Amy? a voice called to me from across the table, ?Do you remember when we went ice skating last year?? I nodded, and smiled at Tim. He started to recall the story; however throughout the account I could not stop looking at Alexis who was now enjoying the story. It was at this particular moment in time that I felt the strangest. My eyes were fixated on Alexis, and everything just seemed as if things were meant to be and for the first time I forgot about that empty feeling. The setting seemed ideal, everything was faultless, the way he sat, and how he looked intently. I started to notice other features, the way he ate, the way he smiled, the way he just loved being around other people, the way he surprised me and the way he hugged me all suddenly, just felt perfect almost too perfect. He turned, and looked at me, his eyes were filled with innocence yet a maturity that was quiet. I stared into his eyes and almost felt as if I could see straight through to his heart. ?Did you really fall?? he inquired. ?Sorry?? I replied, almost stunned at what he was asking me. ?You know, in the story, did you really both fall?? ?Oh, err yes we did,? suddenly remembering about the story as whilst I was looking at him I blanked everything else out. Alexis stood up, and walked over to me, I started to feel nervous, what did he want to say to me? He whispered in my ear, "Can I speak to you alone for a minute please?" I nodded in acceptance and I followed him out. As I stepped outside a bitter chill hit me, the intense atmosphere inside was neutralized by the wind outside. He offered me my coat and I acceptance knowing that not even nature could spoil my evening. "I?m sorry I didn?t tell you I was going to come," he looked at me apologetically as if a five year old was apologizing in a way that could not be helped but forgiven "but I hope you have a special day, well whatever is left of it and that all your dreams come true" he hugged me but at this point my stomach felt as though it had butterflies in it. In my head I repeated "yes, my dreams have come true, now that you?re here." We both walked back inside, to whispers by my friends ?She?s wearing his coat, I wonder what went on? I smiled as I had heard unknowingly to them. I was greeted by the same question by Tina, I whispered back, ?not much?. I looked at him, knowing that this night would forever be in my mind, the day I realised that Alexis was amazing and that we were more than friends, yet I also realised that he knew what I felt, I felt embarrassed yet I knew that I had fallen for the right person, and to this day I still believe that my life changed that day. As I sit here, recalling the happiest day of my life, the day that I felt true love, the day that my life felt fulfilled, the day my previous feelings fell on its head, the day I fell in love with Alexis. Today, exactly ten years on, on my twenty sixth birthday, all my wishes have come true, all with Alexis. Marrying him was just a way of expressing my love him, and to this day he is still as amazing as he was on my sixteenth birthday.
