Trapped! ? Creative Writing " Please help me. My husband is coming home soon and I need someone to come get me out of here quickly! " At this point Nicole is very distressed as the operator tries to calm her down and asks for her name. Nicole tries her best to compose herself, to stop herself crying, she eventually manages to speak, " He?s been beating me and I can?t stand it anymore, I feel like killing myself! I need help. Someone please, come quickly. Oh hurry, he?s coming! Sorry I?ve got to go." Her husband Vinnie enters the house from a hard days work and notice?s Nicole?s suspicious behaviour. He wonders what she is doing and notices the phone slightly off the hook. He lifts the receiver and presses ?redial?. " Hello, Emergency Services. Do you require police, fire or ambulance? " He furiously slams the phone down and glares at Nicole. He thunders across the room to her and with a horrifying blow, hits her across her face. She immediately falls to the ground, banging her head on the edge of the fireplace.
She looks up dazed and crying holding her head. She pleads for him to stop. " Not again, please. " Vinnie goes to strike her again but there is sudden banging at the door. Not knowing who it is, Vinnie grabs Nicole by the hair, dragging her into the kitchen, then opens a cupboard door and orders her to get in it. Then he threatens her, speaking in a low and threatening voice, " Don?t dare even scream or try to speak. " He goes to walk away but turns round sharply and finishes saying, " In fact, don?t even breathe! " He walks away from her to open the front door and notices two policemen standing on his doorstep. They explain to Vinnie that they had received a distressing phone call from his house. Vinnie says, " I?m really sorry for the hassle, but it was just my friend?s child messing about with the phone, we didn?t realise but I?ll have them speak to her right away. We?re sorry if it has caused any inconvenience. " The policeman explains, " Make sure this never happens again please. This wastes our time as we run tight schedules and we can?t have these pranks all the time. " The two policemen leave, walking down the footpath whilst looking around the place as they get into their car and drive off. Checking that the coast is clear, Vinnie slams the door shut and runs into the kitchen to Nicole. She tries to shield herself but he vigorously thumps her arms, pulls her hair, slaps her on the face and trails her across the room by her feet. With blood dripping from her mouth, all over her clothes and all over the kitchen walls, she is told to clean up the mess and take a bath. Nicole struggles in agony to clean the kitchen as best as she can and quickly rushes to the bathroom. Whilst in the bath, she soaks her bruises with water and wet pieces of cloth to clean off the blood and cuts. She becomes startled when she hears Vinnie enter the bathroom and approach her. Her heart starts to race rapidly and she tenses her body. He stands at the door staring at her and then tells her to relax as he lifts up a sponge and soaks it with water. He gently pushes her back and starts to squeeze the water carefully onto her cuts and bruises. Vinnie says, " Nicole, I?m sorry. It was very thoughtless of me. I didn?t want to hurt youâ?? but you made me. " He assures her that it will not happen again and holds her close to him. Nicole looks up into his eyes and asks him, " Is it really over? " He replies to her, saying softly " No more, I promise." For the next few weeks everything went back to the way it was when they first started dating and got engaged. They went out for romantic meals, went to the cinema and held hands walking through the park. Just like it used to be. They had met in a Chinese restaurant when Nicole was sitting at a table on her own waiting for a friend. One of the waiters had come over with a drink that had been ordered from a man sitting at the table opposite. Nicole was flattered by the gesture and gave him a seductive smile of acknowledgement. From then on things developed and they started dating. When things began to get serious after two or three years of going out, they moved in together. Nicole thought she was very happy, until Vinnie proposed to her at a concert on Valentine?s Day. She was ecstatic. It was something she had always dreamed of. After six months of wedded bliss, Vinnie came home late from work one evening in a bad mood. Nicole didn?t know he was going to be home late and his dinner had been ruined so she threw it out. He was furious, lifted his plate and threw it against the kitchen wall. The kitchen was a mess and Nicole was stunned. She had never seen any signs of Vinnie?s temper before this. Then, without any warning, Vinnie hit Nicole across her face and threw her to the ground! Nicole couldn?t believe what he had done. Leaving her speechless, he just went upstairs to bed as if nothing had happened. Over a period of time Vinnie became progressively more dominant and angry. The slightest thing made him cross and he started taking it out on Nicole. Nicole developed cuts and bruises everywhere and eventually was not allowed to leave the house at all. She tried to seek help but couldn?t bring herself to say anything to anyone, like it was her fault. She felt ashamed. Although sometimes things were okay, she always had doubts about Vinnie and she was right to think like that. Vinnie frequently came home late and sometimes smelt of alcohol and this particular night was no exception. Nicole knew by the tone of his voice that something was up and quickly and carefully put the dishes away. She saw Vinnie take out some wire from a bag that he brought back from work. Without speaking, he grabbed her fiercely and dragged her upstairs into the bathroom. Nicole was so scared about what was going to happen she could hardly breathe. She prayed for the first time for help from God. Vinnie had the wire round her neck. Nicole was so frightened and she felt that her time had come. She felt a sigh of relief as well, she kept thinking she would be free from it all. She bowed her head and with a peaceful mind, she whispered ?â??and deliver me from evil.? ?Amen.?
