The Skill of Writing

The Skill of Writing
Writing and reading are two essential skills that we need to have in order to succeed in any field of study that we have chosen. Without these two we would not be here, wouldn?t be writing right now and would be considered the lowest class of our society. There are different aspects of writing that each of us may, or may not, excel at. Some of us are creative enough to write short stories or even novels on fiction while others, like me, are better at writing essays. To accomplish this we have all had a person to inspire us, to drive us, to get us over the hump of confidence that we need to succeed. Still to be successful we need to count on ourselves to succeed.I for one am better at writing essays on a topic than writing a short story about something fiction. To me that is a problem, I am not creative enough to write stories even about my life, but I do excel at writing to a given purpose such as a topic. I feel stronger at essays than at any other part of my writing abilities. When I start writing short stories I feel lost, I confuse myself because I think too much in the way I want to be creative. Thinking usually confuses me even more which at the end I don?t get anything done right. I can easily write essays when I have a given prompt, I run into the trouble when I have to think up the prompt. To me writing essays has become part of me; it isn?t longer a strain to perform.

You can almost say that it comes naturally. It has become naturally because of a person that deeply affected at my writing skills and that person was a teacher by the name of Mrs. Donnellan. At the beginning of the year we were afraid of writing essays. The first essay that we wrote took us about two days to complete, it wasn?t difficult it was that we didn?t have creativity and technique to do them. From then on we wrote all year long and we became good at them, how good? At the end of the year our exam was to complete three well developed essays in a 90 minute period, it was a breeze. The only thing that became tired was our hands, but not our minds. Every writer has an inspiration it could be an instructor or someone or something with a special interest in life. To me it was an instructor I know that that teacher made the difference in my writing abilities; I could probably be lost without her knowledge. I think that my strength that applies the most to me is responsibility. It is that responsibility that has kept me in writing I make sure that I write what is right and that it is on time and matches the request on our writing of our teacher. When you write you must have responsibility to get done what must be done, you cannot slack off and believe that you can do it in a moments notice. Some of us can adapt to various writing environments depending on what must be done, but to get this done it is up to us to get it done. It is always up to us to get it done, it doesn?t depend on our peers or teachers or anyone else, and it is us. That?s where my responsibility ties in. To be a great writer you need many things, but ultimately it is up to you to make the choices that you choose whether you are writing or not. For some of us it comes naturally for others it is hard work and dedication. Like I said they are essential skills to succeed in life. To me I have kept my dedication and inspirations to my writings because of the people around me who at one time helped me get over the hump.
