Exploring Hurricanes
A hurricane is a server tropical storm that forms in the southern Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Mexico or in the eastern Pacific Ocean. They have different names. They are called hurricane (in Atlantic ocean), typhoons (in Indian ocean) and cyclone (in pacific ocean). Hurricanes gather heat and energy through contact with warm ocean waters. Evaporation from the seawater increases their power. Hurricanes are the most devastating things on the planet. They look like large expanse of cloud and its up to 1000 kms wide. It is up to 12000 meters high. Hurricanes rotate in an anti-clockwise direction around an "eye.? It?s like a funnel. The hot air rises up through the ?eye? making low pressure. They contain lots of thunderstorms. [image] Hurricanes are major hazard which can causes considerable loss of life and damage properties and the economy of a country. It?s the most powerful natural hazards on the world. Hurricanes need warm tropical oceans, moisture and light winds above them.
If the right conditions last long enough, a hurricane can produce violent winds, incredible waves, torrential rains and floods. Causes of hurricanes: ? a hurricane causes lots of damages, which can effect the environment. Hurricanes destroy houses; rooftops, breaking up trees and demolish electricity lines. Hurricanes can causes lots of difficulties to people ?s lives. Hurricanes also break up the transport system by flooding. ============== Flooding: ? flooding causes lots of problems. It block the roads and it also brings pollute water supplies which can increase the risk of cholera. In 1974, flash floods in Honduras caused 8000 as people ?s flimsy homes were washed aw ay. Heavy rain causes flooding. [image] Transport problems: ? damage of a transport system can damage the environment too much. It can causes lots amount of money to the government. People will not be able to go to their jobs; if people don?t do their work then the country will not be able to develop. It can also damage the food supply system as well. -????????????????????????????????- Destroying of the houses: ? When hurricanes move onto land, the heavy rain, strong winds and heavy waves can damage buildings, trees and cars. As u can see in the picture below that the hurricane damage the building very defectively. [image] Hurricanes made lots of people homeless. Poor countries (L.E.D.C) can be more affected by the hurricane then the rich countries (M.E.D.C) because poor countries don?t have good technology to let the people know so then they can move their people and their valuable stuff as well before the hurricane attacks, but rich countries as U.S.A has got modern technology they can tell their people to leave that place before hurricane attacks and they have got helicopter to move people from one place to anther place safely. Poor countries don?t have many helicopters. Hurricane Georges brings the blues to the southern states Georges hurricane started in the south of Pacific Ocean and went through the west. I will explain what happened day by day. 23 September: ? the hurricane hits Dominica with 190 kph winds. Eight people did. Florida tourists told to leave west. Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands declared disaster areas. Crops of sugar, bananas and rice wiped out. Eventually over 300 declared dead and 300000 homeless through floods and landsides in hillside slums of Haiti and Dominica. 25 September: ? in Florida over half a million people evacuated to the north. Hurricane approached Miami Beach. 26 September: ? 160 kph winds hit Florida. Only 80 kph winds hit Miami Beach but there were fears for low- lying areas with severe a category 3 hurricane with 190 kph when it reaches Louisiana and Albama. British Airways cancelled flights to Miami and Orlando. -?????????????????????????????????- 27 September: ? palm trees uprooted and marinas shredded by wind and rain from hurricane. Power and phone lines were down. 28 September: ? twelve thousand people took shelter in the super dome, home of New Orleans saints. George changes course and misses the city. Last day of the hurricane: ? hurricane slowed over southern Mississippi, bringing 600 mm of heavy rain and over 240 kph winds but not many casualties. Conclusion: ? these problems can be solves by letting people know before the hurricanes attacks. Only rich countries will be able to do this not poor countries because the have got less technology and they can?t afford it. After many years of study we found new way to save our lives from hurricanes. Hurricanes can?t be more affected then before because from new modern technology. A little help from technology can save more then thousands of lives.
