Inventory Management

Inventory Management
1- The introduction:
Nowadays, the world becomes greatly interested in the industry. Consequently, a lot of companies arose around the world. These companies need their own place. The places are for their work. In addition, the important part of the companies departments is inventories. The inventory means the storages which are factories used to store their tools, equipments and products (1 ). Whilst, the function of the inventory management is responsible for maintaining the assets in adequate quantities until request them from the warehouses and stores ( 2). Furthermore, the storages will have suitable methods to preserve the materials stored. According to (2 ) that the goal of the inventories are provision the needs of factories of materials, raw and necessary equipment. Another aim for inventories is storage of final products at sound condition and suitable for use, also, in the required amounts. This Independent Research Paper (irp) will fill the gap in understanding the inventory management system used in companies. While the inventory management field is a basic of any business process and the attention in this area is few, therefore, this research study will be clarify some points which control the inventory management of companies. The focus will be on the system of inventory, the responsibilities of storekeepers and the designs of storages used in companies in the United State (US). Also, the report will highlight the security and safety of inventories.
2- The system of inventory.
2.1- Storages systems:
The figure shows that there are five main processes which happen inside storages and named ?Storage System?. The first one is resources, which consists of two types: external and internal. In addition, the resources mean raw materials ?internal? and produced materials ?external?. Also, there is relationship between this process and the last process, which named uses. This relationship is reverse control between the two sides. The second process is inputs and it involves items, facilities, equipment, workers, information and technology. This process means all types inside storages. Furthermore, the inputs process has relationship with the fourth process which named outputs. The middle process is operations. The functions of this process are receipt, save, exchange and censorship external and internal materials. The fourth process is outputs. This process is responsible for output the following information: stocks usable, the cost of storage, damaged items and obsolete items. The final process is uses, which consists of production department, procurement department, financial department and distributors. This process linked to the first process, which means the all processes are one cycle.

2.2- The information that the system given:
This step is the most important step in the inventory management because it is responsible of any process will happen in the storages. (5) points out that the information that storages given are the information about all items, which are present inside warehouse, upon request. Moreover, ( 5) imply that this information can give the lower and upper limits and the economic order quantity. In other words, this process will determine the quantities in stock and ready for distribution. Also, this process will supply of the necessary information for financial department (5). Furthermore, (5) highlights that this step is responsible for registration stored materials at the end of the year ? Inventory? and compare them with the beginning of the year with show the differences. The last function is provision any data may be required by various departments (5), for instance, a price list of all items in storages.

3- The role of the storekeepers (responsibilities and powers):
Storekeepers are employees who are responsible for the storages, which supervise for them. Also, they are responsible about all materials in the store and working to apply the instructions from the Secretary-General of the stores (4). Therefore, they have fundamental responsibilities in the inventory management system because they work to protect and maintain the inventory. According to (4) that the major function of a storekeeper is to carry out the receipt and calibration items purchased. In addition, these workers deposit items in the stores and report about any irregularities in the specifications or quantities. Moreover, storekeepers should organise materials in the appropriate places for them in the store (4). That means these employees responsible for creating appropriate conditions for the stored material such as, ventilation, humidity, heat, sunlight and etc. (4) highlights another job for these workers is surveillance stored material periodically to know the rates of withdrawal from stocks and suitability for storage limits to inform the competent authorities to buy when reach the minimum of stock. Furthermore, (4) explains that a storekeeper works to design records and lists of items and encoding them to facilitate access to them quickly when the need them. The most significant aim for storekeepers is adoption precautions security for the inventories (4). Consequently, try to prevent theft, fire and damage. (4) implies that the final goal for these employees is isolate the damaged items and stagnant from good varieties to prevent the spread of damage among the materials stored.
4- Designs of storages:
4.1- The design of storages:
4.1.1- Factors affecting the design of the store:
There are varieties of factors which influence the designing of storages. (9) points out that there are five factors impact the design of stores. The first agent is the quality of storage (9). That means the storage is temporary or permanent. This is because every item need different time of storage depends of the kind of the item. The second factor is specifications and properties of materials required to store (9). For example, some materials have flammable substances so, they have to store away from the sun. In addition, (9) highlights that the third impact for the design is spaces for the storage of materials. Some materials need closed buildings to store, while others need open spaces. For instance, heavy transport equipments store at open spaces, on the contrary, food stores inside closed buildings. Also, the forth effect is storage methods for each class or group of items (9). Thus, some sorts need a cold storage; in contrast, some materials need heating and moisture. Finally, (9) demonstrates that the fifth factor is storages locations. Hence, some giant companies build their stores at different countries, which are suitable for their stored materials.
4.1.2- Nature of the materials to be stored:
In this step, there are three main factors. According to (9) the first one is size and weight of product and quantity often required and the rate of demand. The second one is the space needed for storage. The last agent is prevention and precautions for the quality of materials (9), such as, heat or cooling or ventilation.
4.1.3- Objectives of the design storages:
The goals of the design stores summed up in some points. Above all, the storages should be enough for the stored materials (9). That means the store must be a reasonable amount of space for materials will be stored inside because if the store is small and contains a large inventory, the stocks will damage. (9) presents that is choose of appropriate flooring will be more importantly on the design storages. This is because choose of appropriate flooring will affect the ease of transfer of the stored material to and from the store. In addition, the significant objective is optimal utilization of spaces while leaving some space for the passage of transport equipment and individuals (9). This is because this organization will allow to easily and quickly performing the work in the store.

4.2- Interior design of storages:
4.2.1- Factors to be taken into account when planning for the internal store:
When planning to build a store should take into account some important points to be successful. The major point is easy to receive and to develop and to withdraw the item in the store (10). Furthermore, (10) rightly points out that should be the optimum use of spaces in the upper. This can happen by using the upper spaces to put non-heavy tools because if they will fall they will not cause any harm to workers. In addition, (10) highlights that the fundamental point should be taken is prevent work-related accidents during transport and handling. This can be by organising items appropriately, for example, put the tools which can be broken in the lower shelves. Another point can be the use of means of preserving the stock (10). This point is doable by providing lighting, ventilation, air conditioning, and etc. Moreover, (10) implies that is preferably the Office of the Secretary-store adjacent to the place of exchange materials. This is will be useful to reduce thefts at storages. The last point is numbering shelves and makes a full map for each store (10). This step most significantly to facilitate the inventory.

5- Security and safety of repositories:
5.1- General causes of accidents on warehouses:
The accidents can happen by a lot of causes. The major cause is errors in interior design of the repositories (6). This maybe will happen by lack of adequate spaces in the corridors. In addition, the fall of workers during conducting operations inventory as a consequence of failure to regulate the store (7). Furthermore, (6) explains that misuse of equipment transport possibly cause of accidents in the store. This is because the lack of knowledge of their use or overloading them. Also, (7) points out that is the fall of tools on employees can be the main reason for accidents? work. This is because put of heavy materials in the upper shelves. In addition, the fall on the ground is possible to be one of the causes of accidents (7). This can be result of non-floor cleaning. The most significant reason is failure to take adequate precautions to fire (6). This is a consequence of lack of attention to developing a fire detection device. The final cause is lack of focus at work and absent-mindedness (7). This is possibly due to personal problems for employees.

5.2- Results of general accidents:
There are great losses occur as a result of accidents stores. Workers should pay more attention to decrease them. The significant loss is casualties (6). This loss can kill a lot of employees by small faults. Next, it can be loss of money (6). This can happen by damage of equipments or materials because errors of inventory. The last result of the accidents is can obstruction of work and production (7). All these loss will cause failure of projects, so employers should try to reduction these accidents to success in their work.
