Analysis of 2pac's Letter to My Unborn Child and Nas Featuring R. Kelly's Did You Ever Fink
There are many different media texts and are showed in many different ways such as Television: ? Sound, words, pictures, movie clips. Newspaper: ? pictures, detailed sentences (attract the readers attention) sub headings (catch eye of readers). Flyers: ? little advertisements (inform people about up coming events e.g. discos, parties trips and events) written in very brief detail. Radio: ? Sound and detailed information that you could only listen to the purpose of this is to tell people about the world but it is told very very brief and quick. So the audience would like it that means that media texts are made for audiences just to be herd and sometimes to entertain and also make money to improve on their styles and the way they have explained things like the flyers just say there?s a party its just advertising to make money and to entertain people by being published and being advertised how do you think people know that there?s something new by media text like on the radio, billboards, flyers and leaflets its all being advertised by media text and then made money out of people who co operate with the things there have seen. Songs have a combination of words and music people listen to for different reasons such as some people listen to it because they might like the beat or words. There are different categories of music e.g. rap, pop, hip hop, reggae, dance, garage and r n b these are the categories songs are put in. all these deferent categories I have written are different because it has different beats to it and people listen to them for different reasons.
Music is very different and there is a link between the songs and music, music is various instruments being played with out music the songs wouldn?t be any good because people like the music and songs the music gives a back ground to the songs and music has a beat which has lyrics involved which is transformed into a song and is sold to many different people in the world so the songs are made to entertain and to make lots of money there are many different artists who have made many different songs make millions just on one single album. I think that media text and songs are just there as a bait for people to fall for and spend money so that the people behind this is just out there to make their money both of them (media text and songs) are aimed for the same audiences. Development The songs that I am analysing and comparing are: ? 2pac- ?letter to my unborn child? and Nas featuring R.Kelly -?Did u ever fink? ? Both songs are rap songs and I am going to start off with 2pac?s- ?letter to my unborn child?. 2pac has tragically died but he has done this song in the form of reading a letter; he has put a good beat to the song, which repeats with a rhythm. He opens the first stanza with the chorus, which is repeated through the song several times. He sings it with emotional feeling and it?s sung as if he?s going to die. It was made for his unborn child this is why he probably named it this. He also shows this by the words ?Now ever since my birth, I?ve been cursed since I?m born to wild in case I never get to holla at my unborn child? by using these words 2pac has made a impression to the listeners that he knew he was going to die and he was cursed by god. He also states in his song ?Many things learned in prison, blessed and still livin Tryin to earn every penny that I?m gettin, and reminiscinto the beginnin of my mission When I was conceived, and came to be in this position My momma was a Panther loud, single parent but she proud when she witnessed baby boy rip a crowd To school, but I dropped out, and left the house Cause my mama say I?m good for nothin, so I?m out Since I only got one life to live, God forgive me for my sins Let me make it and I?ll never steal again, or deal again? he is stating in these lines that he was in prison dealing trying to earn every penny conceived but he wants forgiveness because he has realised he was doing wrong, that?s why he thought he was cursed by god. ?Did u ever fink? by R Kelly featuring Nas is also a rap song. This song also fits well into the music and the rhythm and beats. This song makes you think about different things and what the outcomes are going to be. For example ?Did you ever think that you would be this rich, Did you ever think that you would have these hits, Did you ever think that you would be the don, Have a crib with a fifty acre lawn?. This is the second stanza and all the words rhyme with the beat. This song is representing someone because the singer is referring to a person when he says ?Did you ever think? then he adds words on that makes the rhythm like: rich, hits, don, fifty acre lawn. Both of these songs are rap songs. They all go along with the beat and words rhyming at the end of each stanza. Both songs use words like ?ya? and ?bein? etc. These show us that they are sort of slang words meaning not in Standard English form. ?Letter to my unborn child? by 2pac contains several metaphors and similes like ?ghetto heaven? he says this in the chorus when he is letting all his emotional feelings out to his child, which isn?t even born yet. Another example is ? Make way for a whirlwind prophesized? He has used the word ?prophesized? to show emotion by reflecting to the weather. Methods like Personification and linguistic devices are used in both of these poems and the language in ?letter to my unborn baby? is very sad and emotional because when you are listening to the song it seems like 2pac has let all his feelings out. The language in ?Do you ever fink? is very strong and solid because the music is loud with a lot of beat in it. Overall In conclusion I think songsare very important in all people?s lives. I think this because all songs have some effect on the way people think and how people react and behave. Like the song ?letter to my unborn child? might make people think about the there own lives and they might wonder how 2pac is getting through all this. Songs are a big part in entertainment because a lot of people just like to listen to the songs for fun or relaxing etc. I think both songs were successful because they had good music that fitted with the words. This was because the songwriters of these songs carefully made sure that the words made sense and were not dull and boring and of course fitted with the music like some other rap songs. Songs can be used for anything like using them for election campaigns or just relaxing and listening to the songs even passing a message to someone. But whichever way it is very important that they fit in with the music and the song isn?t too long with dull and boring words. 2PAC lyrics ? ?letter TO MY unborn child? To my unborn child..
