Analytical Essay Format – The Format is as Necessary as the Matter
Following the correct analytical essay format is as important as writing a good analytical essay. generally more emphasis is given on good research and content matter and the format is always an after thought. Rather it is better to understand the format first and then start writing the essay.
The basics of a format start with selecting the correct font style and size. The correct style chosen is the Times New Roman or Arial and font size is 12. An inch of margin is left on all sides of the essay. There are certain essay writing formats which are generally followed like MLA/APA/Harvard or the Chicago style. Just like a good matter makes up the content of the good essay, similarly the format will make the essay comprehensive and easy to understand. It will bring in a clarity and will effectively help to communicate with the reader. The analytical essay format is the same as any other essay format. It consists of an introduction, a main body and a conclusion.
1.An introduction will give the topic and provide all relevant information pertaining to the topic without giving any details. The reader must be able to form an opinion of the subject by reading the introduction. A bad introduction will spoil the effect and dissuade the reader from going further.
2.Body – this will consist of the main discussion and will give all details of the methodology followed. Here the writer will analyze the topic in details. It will have an in depth analysis and will examine the topic more closely. The writer will have to write his own opinions and thoughts on the object of interest and give his own reactions supported by various evidences. He has to give a detailed description of the object and all relevant historical facts associated with it and the message the topic conveys. Correct references and proper citations in support of the writer’s views must be presented to strengthen the writer’s opinions and give a credibility to the essay. Contradictory Opinions and views in respect to those of the writer’s ones also have to be given and the differences explained to convince the reader of the writer’s choice.
3.Conclusion – The conclusion should be a concise summary of the topic stressing on the main ideas. The writer will reiterate his firm stand on the topic. It should be written in such a way that it starts the thinking process in the reader’s mind. A brief and simple conclusion is the best way of taking the writer’s message across to the reader .
