Usually, when you want to compare things, you need to research for attributes that will help you define the differing characteristics of these objects. But if you have a sense of first defining the measures of differences and similarities of these subjects, then it is easy to compose a comparative essay.
1. First of all, you must first have a thesis statement that will generally compare the groups that you wish to discuss. Remember that comparing two things may involve either differences or similarities in their properties. But it is also possible to discuss both parameters. Therefore, write a thesis statement that approaches at least any one of the presented division structures.
2. Second, a comparative essay is also like a classification essay at the early stages of writing. This is because you need to first group the objects according to their respective criteria. This will help the reader understand how they are divided and will later consider that your comparison discussions are effective and correct.
3. Third, depending on your thesis statement, start differentiating or finding similarities between the groups. This approach should be written in larger and more general properties of the objects and then narrowed down to very specific attributes. For example, when you are writing a comparative essay that involves computers, you may divide them into corporate and personal computers. Compare their functions and costs, and then narrow down to specifics like ease in usage for beginners.
