Classification Essays

Do you know how to write a classification essay?
A classification essay is one of the many types of essays that intend to develop a certain goal. In this case, it is to classify things according to a particular grouping factor and writing the underlying discussions on how one can actually separate an object from the others involved in the topic scope. So what is the main thesis statement of a classification essay? Since you are going to present the classified factors in the essay, your thesis statement should be straight forward. For example; “There are (number) of types of (subject) according to (properties)”.
It is important that the objects to be discussed in a classification essay can be grouped into discriminating groups that are distinct from each other and do not overlap in terms of factor criterion. This means that you must be able to classify the things only in specific groups and cannot jump over another group. For example, you can write about computers and their classification factors may be grouped by the way they are used; PC, workstations, super computers, mainframe or servers.
Each of the discussion paragraphs of the classification essay will represent a particular group. You may then discuss the different characteristics of objects that belong in each of the mentioned groups. In some cases, it is also a good idea to integrate factors like similarities and differences of objects in each paragraph groupings.
