Referencing in ACS Style requires that citations in the text should be cited in italics in one of three ways: either by number, or by superscript number, or by author’s name and date.
In case an item is cited more than once, the reference does not receive a number.
In case more than one reference are cited at once, include numbers in increasing order, separated by commas.
ACS Style: Reference List
A reference list appears at the end of the paper
It’s called Literature Cited
List references in an alphabetical order by the author’s last name
List references in a numerical order if cited by numbers

Start the Literature Cited section on a new page only if the previous page is full
End all references with a period
Do not leave blank lines between references
If the whole book is cited, no pagination is required
