Aim Looking at how concentration affects the movement of water particles through a partially permeable membrane Prediction I predict that when the potato is submerged into highly concentrated sugar solution the mass will decrease. However, when the potato is submerged into plain water the mass will increase. I predict that relationship between the pure water will be linear however the relationship between the sugar solution will be a smooth curve. Scientific background Diffusion Diffusion is the process by which a substance moves from a region of high concentration of that substance to a region of low concentration of the same substance. Diffusion occurs because the molecules of which substance s are made in random motion (kinetic theory). The rate of diffusion depends upon: 1. The concentration Gradient ? The greater the difference in concentration between two regions of a substance the greater the rate of diffusion. Organisms must therefore maintain a fresh supply of a substance to be absorbed by creating a stream over the diffusion transported away. 2. The distance over which diffusion takes place ? The shorter the distance between two regions of different concentration the greater the rate of diffusion. The rate is proportional to the reciprocal of the square of the distance (inverse square law).

Aim I will investigate how change in concentration of immobilised enzymes affects the rate of reaction. Hypothesis I predict that the rate of reaction will increase, as the concentration of enzyme increases. Immobilising the enzyme may change the rate of reaction to using free enzyme. (see prediction for details) Theory I will test my hypothesis by keeping the concentration of enzyme the variable in my experiment. I will use Amyloglucosidase (amg) as my enzyme and Starch solution as my substrate. amg hydrolyses Î? 1, 4 and Î? 1, 6 linkages (bonds) in Starch. During hydrolysis, Glucose units are removed in a stepwise manner from the non-reducing end of the Starch molecule. The rate of hydrolysis depends on the type of linkages in the substrate as well as its chain length. Î? 1,4 linkages are more readily hydrolysed than Î? 1,6 linkages.

Factors affecting the output of a solar cell: This experiment is going to be performed in the confines of a school laboratory, and so the complexity and cost of the experiment(s) should reflect this. However, to see how different factors affect the solar cell output, I will need to perform at least two experiments. The question is, which ones? Â? Distance from the light source will affect the solar cell output, because intensity of light on the solar cell will decrease, the further away from the light the cell is. This is because many waves, including light, will travel away from the filament in a circular motion, not straight lines directly towards the solar cell, so the further away it is, the less rays will hit it. Â? A changing power to the light source, and therefore, to the solar cell, will affect the solar cell output. Theoretically, an increase in power at the light source should result in more energy being transferred to the solar panel, per second, resulting in a greater solar cell output.

This will be pH. This means that all other things must be kept constant. In order to achieve this certain precautions need to be taken. Temperature will be maintained by putting the agar plates in an incubator set at a constant of 20ºC; this will be checked with the use of a thermometer. This is important because an increase in temperature will increase kinetic energy therefore speeding up the rate of reaction. High temperatures could even denature the amylase. Low temperatures will decrease the rate of amylase activity because the substrate and enzyme molecules have less kinetic energy and move more slowly, collide less often and react more slowly.

Goals represent expectations and if employees have higher expectations then employees will have improved performance as long as employees achieve their goals. Most of the time, what employees need is motivation, meaning, and purpose in their jobs and if employees set worthwhile goals, they will find life but work more specifically more fulfilling and exciting. Once there is an aim, there is purpose and fulfilling that purpose increases performance as there is realization of achieving success.

The reason for this is pollution, and also having humans over hunting the sea animals even though the hunting sea is over. In addition, humans are littering cause some sea animals dying from the littering. Another problem that is occurring is poaching which hunting animals out of season. The first reason for saving sea animals or a certain specie is that the sea animals kill other sea animals, which help control their population.
