Surface Area of Leaves

Surface Area of Leaves
Aim: To find a connection between the size(surface area) of the leaf and the distance between the trunk and the road. Hypothesis: Yes, I believe that the surface area of the leaves will increase the further away from the road they are. I believe that there are many reasons all due to different pollutions, caused by the cars driving on the road. I?m sure that it affects the leaves in other ways such as premature leaf drop, delayed maturity, plant growth, reproductionâ??.but also the size will get affected. Cars are responsible for a tremendous amount of air pollution and wasted energy that affect humans and our environment. Acid rain, which is caused by air pollution, poisons our water as well as plants.

Investigating the Effect of Light Intensity on the Size of a Plantain Leaf
Title: To investigate the effect of light intensity on the size of a
plantain leaf.

Hypothesis: I predict that the size of the plantain leaves would
increase as the light intensity decreases. Therefore, plantain leaves
found in the shade will have larger surface areas than leaves found in
an open area.

Therefore, plantain leaves found in the shade will have larger surface areas than leaves found in an open area. Theory: Sunlight is an essential factor need to complete the process of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis consists of the following equation: Sun light Carbon dioxide + Water ====> Glucose + Oxygen Chlorophyll Chlorophyll is a substance found in chloroplasts, found in the cells of leaves. They are used to produce glucose which is used as plant food and growing materials (e.g. cellulose).A leaf which is exposed to plenty of light will have sufficient amounts of food and will not need an excessive amount of chlorophyll. This enables the leaf to have a small surface area

The Death of the Pepsi Man

The Death of the Pepsi Man
One day while lost in the vast woodlands of Scotland, I came upon a pop

machine, I had no money, and because of my strong moral values, I felt I could

not force it open with a stick or break it with a rock, because that was wrong.

As I sat there leaning against it, I pondered how I could get a refreshing can

of pop. I got up and looked around to find a coin or a bill that someone might

have left or lost. After five or six hours I gave up, no one had dropped

anything that I could find. By this time it was now nightfall, so I slept

leaning against this oasis. While asleep, I had a wonderful dream of this pop

machine. I dreamed that it opened up and asked me to indulge in a cold

refreshing drink. Another dream I had was where every five minutes the machine

gave me a can from now until eternity.

Trees and Modifying the Environment

Trees and Modifying the Environment
Introduction: In this piece of work the main hypothesis I am studying is "Do trees modify their environment", this basically is asking Do tree change theirsurroundings? I have simplified the main hypothesis into three smaller hypotheses, to make it easier for me to explain my prediction and results. The three hypotheses are: 1. Where there are trees there will be less light, less soil moisture, the temperature will be lower, there will be less plants growing on the ground, and the soil ph will be more acidic, than an area where there are no trees. 2. Where there are deciduous trees there will be less light, more soil moisture, the temperature will be lower, there will be less ground cover, and the soil will be less acidic, than an area where there are coniferous trees. 3. Where there are young trees there will be more light, the temperature will be higher, the soil will be more moist, there will be more plants growing on the ground, and the soil ph will be less acidic, than an area where there are old trees.

Measuring the Tree

Measuring the Tree
I am going to measure the size of various leaves from various trees with different heights and sizes. I am also going to find out the circumference of the tree and the length (measurements) of the branches. In order to achieve this goal, the use of a Quadrat would be useful. Throw the Quadrant in three different positions; record what species of plants and bugs were found in that certified area of the Quadrant; measure the plants (preferably 10 plants) and count the leaves on each plant?s branch.
