A Day At The Park

A couple of months ago I went to the park with my nephew. I remember the day like is was yesterday. The weather was cool and clouds were overhead. I sat by myself and watched him play and watched everything happen around me. I wasn’t expecting to find so many interesting things just watching people, but amazed at what I did discover. Children were all over the place and were wearing coats that had their favorite characters on them. A girl had purple mittens with a teletubby on them and a boy had a blue coat with Thomas the Train on it. One small boy with green eyes had a hat with a ball on the top.

The Wave

The book The Wave by Morton Rhue is a fiction story but is based on an incident that occurred in a high school in Palo Alto, California. In the book, history teacher Ben Ross shows a movie to his high school class about Germany while studying World War Two. After a series of questions after the movie, Ross conducts an experiment to roughly explain the cruel behavior of the German Nazis during the Holocaust. He starts an organization called the Wave in his class that spreads rapidly throughout the school. Laurie Saunders, one of Mr. Ross' students, is against the Wave and believes that it is controlling the majority of the school, who are forming a huge group dedicated to recruiting new Wave members and following the rules set up by Mr. Ross. Mr. Ross gets in trouble when the Wave turns violent against the non-members. Ross then explains to the members how they have absent-mindedly let someone control their decisions, just like the Nazis following the commands of Adolf Hitler. The Wave is a thought-provoking book that is full of surprising events that continue until the end.

Figuring Out You're Gay-Creative Writing
Kevin always knew that he was different, even as a young child he knew. Girls just never interested him for anything more than as playmates or casual friends. He liked girls all right, just not like the other guys did. He always knew that he was probably gay, but when you?re young you don?t really understand all the feelings and emotions that well up inside of you as you grow to adulthood. Showing affection??? Now that was something that Kevin couldn?t even comprehend trying in his small middle class mid western town. Besides, who would he show that affection to? For all he knew he was the only gay kid in his whole school, and no one suspected that he was queer, and he wasn?t about to come out where he felt that even his parents wouldn?t understand. Feeling lonely was just something he was used to. He was certainly looking forward to his first year at State U., sure that at least there he would find others in the same boat as he.
The first weeks of college life were hectic to say the least, what with twenty five thousand students in one place was overwhelming as well as exhilarating! This was the first time Kevin had ever been on his own for any length of time, and he settled into a comfortable routine. He even began to make a few friends in his classes as well as in his dormitory. His roommate, Tom, was a nineteen year old freshman from Chicago, so many nights were spent telling each other of life in each other?s home town. Kevin had to admit that Tom?s stories were much more interesting than his own, and Tom seemed to have plenty of tales to tell about the girls he had been with and the wild sex they had together. Luckily for him, Tom didn?t really try to pry into Kevin?s personal background so Kevin didn?t even have to lie about exploits with the opposite sex!

John Carpenter's They Live

John Carpenter's They Live
John Nada is a man without job who walks around a big American city trying to find something to do. He finally finds a job as a worker and a place to spend the nights, but one-day John discovers a pair of sunglasses through which he can see the true face of people. Many persons in this city are in fact aliens and most of them are important members of our society. They keep humans in ignorance and they rule our world as they like. In terms of media theory, I think these people represent the traditional Marxists in the fact that they directly manipulate people by bombarding them with media and government messages like "Stay Asleep?, ?No Imagination?, ?Submit to Authority?.
