Many human activities, such as oil and gas pipelines, have interrupted the movement of flow and sediment within the wetlands that it is another factor in the loss of acres for the Atchafalaya. But there is not a total loss in this, the Atchafalaya have also positive outlooks on things. The basin consists of more fish compared to any other natural water system in North America. Let alone the production and distribution of three types of crawfish found in Atchafalaya. The crawfish is the main moneymaker for New Orleans fish markets. But the crawfish may only resemble 10-20% of what is caught. Most of it results in bycatch, organisms caught in the shrimp nets that are discarded, and the Atchafalaya is seen some times as a floating graveyard of different expired species

The Rhine is usually at its maximum volume during the seasons of spring and summer; this is due to the fact that there is the melted water of snow and glaciers. In this enquiry I am looking at the aspect of river flooding in the Rhine, particularly in 1995. A river flood is when a river spills its banks onto areas of land surrounding it that are not usually covered by water. Causes The main causes for river flooding are: S Heavy rainfall ? causes soil to become saturated and not allow infiltration. S Rapidly melting snow S Dam bursts S Soil saturation ? this may cause a river to flood as the water would not be able to infiltrate the soil and so will encourage overland flow. S Deforestation ? this may cause flooding as there are no trees to intercept the rain and so the soil will become saturated. S Ploughing ? this may cause flooding as it creates gullies which water can flow down towards the river S Urbanisation (extending built up areas) ? this may cause a river to flood as the concrete and tarmac that is laid over the soil send more water to the river than to the fields which they replaced.

Dear Whoever, I am writing to you as I am disgusted at the state of the rivers in the countryside, I am sure you are unaware of these issues as no action has been taken to try to solve this problem Here are a few cases of the very many rivers which have suffered: Site ? River Kennet Problem Low flows caused by Water Company licensed abstractions. Taking water could lead to the river drying up, killing wildlife such as Water Crowfoot and the Desmoulin Whorl Snail. Low water levels could also prevent vegetation on banks of rivers not to grow. Solution This problem could be resolved by monitoring and limiting the amount of water being abstracted from this river. You could also make a change in the contract with the Water Company by limiting the amount of water taken in the summer so the river doesn?t dry up, you could also keep extra water in storage in the winter so you don?t need to abstract in the summer. Monitoring & limiting water abstraction and buying storage containers would mean hiring new staff or buying new technology, either way money would have to be spent, this means that water rates would have to be increased. The public would have to decide what they wanted, increased rates or things leaving the same.

Introduction I have been set a piece of coursework. This investigation is about workout the environment by studying sediments. I will look at the sorting of the grain sizes of the sediment to work out what the environment will look like. Sorting is the number of different sized particles within sediment. I already know that if there is a wide range of grain size that the sediment is poorly sorted and that this tells me that the flow was suddenly stopped. This is like a river flowing it a lake. The stationary water in the lake suddenly stops the flow. I also know that if the grains are all of mainly one size that it is well sorted and this tells me that the flow was constant. This is like when a river is flowing down the mountain; the single grain size is dropped due to it cannot hold it (to heavy).
