Going Home- Creative Writing

Going Home- Creative Writing
It was a frosty night. The ground was soft, but dry. The sun had
almost set, and thick grey clouds moved slowly and silently through
the sky. The air smelt damp, the only sound anyone could have heard
was their own breathing, and the occasional chirping of a bird above.
The air was cool, a soft wind blew through the trees and Corporal
Brown shuddered, though not with discomfort and coolness, but with
terror and anxiety for the forthcoming events. As the slight whistle
from the wind sounded in her ears, she lowered herself down, as low as
she could get, into the soft muddy earth amongst the bushes.

Panting, she woke up. She had the nightmare again and this time more
vivid than ever. It always began with her running frantically in fear
for her life with a man steadily coming after her. Also, it always
ended with the same dreadful scene, her choked to death and laying
morbidly on the floor and an unnatural angle. Her therapist told her
these dreams were brought about due becoming aware of here her
mortality due to the death of her boyfriend six months ago in a car
accident, and that it she could suffer and be the victim, but she knew
better. She knew these were visions, and she knew she would not let it
come true.

Censorship is NOT Good

Censorship is NOT Good
Censorship, a controversial word that has been with us since who knows when. Ancient dictators would burn books because they didn?t like them and force people to believe what he did. The question I ask myself though is if censorship in Libraries and schools is justified. My answer is no, and that is what I will try to convince you. Censorship is ridiculous, unfair and selfish, and censors are hypocritical, intolerant, and arrogant. What I mean when I say censorship is ridiculous is exactly that.

Water Pollution and Its Effects on the Environment Water

Water Pollution and Its Effects on the Environment Water
Water Pollution and Its Effects on the Environment Water is the most important resource available to people this day and age. Humans can survive without food for several weeks, but would die very shortly if water sources were removed. But now, these scarce sources are being threatened by industries and the common ?thoughtless? human. On a less dramatic note, millions of gallons of water are needed every day worldwide for various reasons including: washing, irrigating crops, cooling industrial plants and corporations, and for hydro-electricity. This is not to mention leisure industries such as swimming pools, water parks, etc. Despite our dependence on water, we use these sources as a dumping ground for all sorts of waste, and do very little to protect the specific water supplies we have. Today, this pollution is being heavily over-looked throughout numerous parts of the world.

The Effect of The Treaty of Versailles on Germany

The Effect of The Treaty of Versailles on Germany
The limits that the Treaty of Versailles placed on Germany limiting her military strength were the fact that the Rhineland, (which bordered France) was to be demilitarised, for France?s peace of mind. Germany was told to have only 100,000 soldiers, however she protested at this and said that this was not enough to keep the peace , and the fact that Germany was the only country forced to disarm angered her even further. Additionally, the Treaty of Versailles said that Germany was allowed no air force and only a tiny navy, although Britain did sign a later agreement in private decreeing that Germany could have a navy roughly a tenth of the size of Britain?s own navy. Roughly 16% of Germany?s coal-fields and half of her iron and steel industry was lost, and consequently she was able to make less weapons. When Hitler came to power in 1933 as Chancellor, he then, once he had a firm grip of the land, ignored the Treaty of Versailles and started to rebuilt the German army in secret. This gained the approval of many people, and Hitler showed his true colours between October 1935 and May 1936, when he entered the Rhineland while the Italians were invading Abyssinia. 3b) Why did the victorious powers want to limit Germany?s strength? The victorious powers wanted to limit Germany?s strength so that she didn?t, and was not able to, cause another war.

Speech: Against Capital Punishment

Speech: Against Capital Punishment
motion: " We believe that capital punishment is not needed in a civilised community." Imagine yourself in a small, isolated cabin waiting to be led to your execution. A small, scrawny man comes to collect you. Your whole life rushes past you as you take your few, final footsteps to the execution chamber. This is the thought 7,000 people have experienced in the last 18 months. These people were executed cruelly by capital punishment in countries all over the globe. 970 of these people were women and children. The countries allowing this barbaric method of punishment to happen have probably never thought about whether this scheme of punishment is actually successful in the deterring of crime. I have many reasons for arguing against capital punishment. Firstly, I believe that it is a failure as a deterrent of crime, which can be seen by comparing the criminal statistics of those countries where the punishment is in use, with those countries where it has been abolished. Capital punishment violates the right to live, a right everyone has even if they are mass murderers. Crimes punishable by death include rape, murder, adultery and kidnapping, all which should be punishable in a more civilized way and not by the death sentence. All in all, there are thirty-five crimes punishable by death, ranging from assassinations to shoplifting.
